PERSONAL.

Vice-regal: His Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool) left for Wellington by the Maori last evening. He will return to Christchurch to-morrow. General Godley left for the north by the Maori last night. Professor Blunt arrived from Wellington by the Wahine to-day. Mr T. G. Russell arrived by to-day's ferry steamer from Wellington. Mr W. A. Esson, of Wanganui, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr R. Bristol, of Birmingham, is staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr W. H. Corbin, of Sydney, is staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr H. Quance arrived by the Manuka from Dunedin to-day. Dr Trotter also arrived by the same vessel. Mr N. H. Gorton, of Auckland, is visiting Christchurch, and staying at the Clarendon Hotel. The Rev. Chapman, Drs. Colquhoun and A. de Paterson, and Mr J. H. Estall arrived by the Wahine from Wellington to-day. The Hon. R. H. Rhodes, PostmasterGeneral, and his private secretary, Mr W. Crow, are proceeding north to Wellington this evening. Mr C. G. Weston, "Dominion," Wellington, who has been for. a trip to Australia, arrived by the express yesterday, and leaves for Wellington this evening. Captains Hutton, Todd, and Glendenning, Hon. J. Borthwick, Major Pinwell, Lieut.-Colonel Cresswell, SergeantMajor Franks, and Sergeant-Major O'Hara left by the Maori last night. Mr J. C. N. Grigg, of Longbeach, left for Wellington last night to attend a conference with the Prime Minister with regard to the new Board of Agriculture. Mrs D. Thomas and Miss Thomas, of Ashburton, with Mr C. S. Thomas, left last night for a trip to England and Europe. They will be absent for about nine months. The funeral of the late Mr Denis Carmody, officer in charge of the Christchurch Labour Bureau, which took place yesterday, was attended by representatives of the Labour Department and of various labour organisations, together with many private friends. Mr A. Donald represented the head office of the Labour Department, and Mr J. M 'Cullough, employees' representative on the Arbitration Court, was also present. Requiem mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Church, and the burial took place at Linwood Cemetery. The bearers were Messrs Donald, Stringer, and Wakelin (Labour Department), and Detective Gibson and Constables Joyce and Smythe (Police Department).
