WELLINGTON HIDE SALE

A BETTER TONE ; A better tone prevailed at the fortnightly sale of sheepskins and hides held on Friday by the combined Wellington brokers. There was spirited competition for sound pelted skins, which sold at par to Id lower; faulty skins showed a decline of id to id a lb. For hides the market showed a hardening tendency, and there was keen competition, especially for the best lines. Hides in average sloppy condition were firm, with a slight advance in light and medium weights. Yearlings and kip were very firm, and ealf- ! Hkins sold at par to id a lb dearer. Tallow was dull of sale, prices showing a 1 decline for both tin and cask lots. The range of prices is as follows: Dry Sheepskins.—Halfbred, 6id to 6hd' fine crossbred, 6.1 to 7 4 d; medium crossbred. 5Sd to 63d: coarse crossbied 5d to 62d; half-wools, 3}d to 03 d, quarter-wools, 2Ad to sd; pelts, 2id to halted Skins.—Quarter-wools. 2s; three-quarter wools 3s 9d to 4s, tun wools 4s to 5s 3d; lambs, Is to Hidei—ox, 331 bto 441 b, 41d to s|d; .(gib to 521 b. 4d to 5 3-8 d; ox, o3lb f ’cqii, 5,1 to 5 3-8(1; ox, 601 b to i>3lb, to o9lb, Bd to » * k and over, 5 3-Sd 33™ to 391 b. 3 7-Sd to - cow 401 b to 481 b. 4*d to J 7-Sd, cow. 49U> and over. 4d to.
