In the Market Place
FEW PRICE CHANGES FIRST ASPARAGUS QUOTED Few price changes were noted in the city markets at this morning's auctions, bananas and grapes I alone showing movement among fruit lines. Potatoes rose slightly. Plentiful supplies and a moderate demand brought eggs down by a further penny a dozen in all grades. The demand for apples was about the same as for weeks past, but there was a better demand for good quality dessert pears at ruling prices. Lemons and poorman oranges were still plentiful, and were dull of sale. Tree tomatoes were in good supply, but the shipment of Island oranges bad been exhausted. Bananas were ripening fast, tho supply increasing until al- j most up to demand, but it is expected ! there will be a shortage before the next shipment comes to band. | Cabbages, lettuces, and celery were j i again in over-supply, and good quart.- ! i titles of new potatoes and other vegei tables in season were available. The j demand was fair. j Tho first supply of asparagus sufbeii cntly largo to be quoted was on sale today, bringing from Is to 3s a bundle, j Quotations: FRUIT Apples.—Delicious, 4s to Ss: Stunners, : Gs to 8s Gd; Dougherty, 4s to 7s 6d; Mun- i i roes, 4s to 6s; Ballarats, Gs 6d to 7s: \ Granny Smiths, 7s Gd to 9s 6d: Pride of i Australia, 4s Gd to Ss; Rome Beauty, 4s , to Gs Gd.
