Rooster Semi-Finals
TOMORROW’S LEAGUE FARE Champions to Meet Devonport THE grade champion, Ponsonby, will meet Devonport tomorrow in the featured game of the two semi-final matches of the Auckland Tiugby League’s Roope Rooster knock-out competition, and unless Devonport does a good deal better than it did when it last met Ponsonby the match will be a walk-away for the Ponies.
Devonport will certainly have to show a wonderful improvement on the form it displayed when it last appeared on the main area to merit its appearance there tomorrow. It may be that the club has got a new lease of life with the advent of the knock-out, but it certainly seems that the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League took a big risk when it set the Ponsonby-hevon-port match down for decision v.n No. 1 ground. At its best, of course, Devonport should be able to make Ponsonby step it out. The other match will be Richmond v. City on the No. 2 area at 3.15 p.m. Richmond created a big surprise last Saturday by outing last season’s champion of champions, but it may be that it will be up against a stiffer proposition tomorrow. Indications at present are that this match will be the pick of the two. although it is traditional that tho No. 2 ground has a damping effect on the standard of football, and the main area usually has the reverse effect. Following are the League teams for tomorrow’s matches in all grades: Senior A. Grade Ponsonby.—Wilson, Delgrosso, Schofield, I*. Skelton. Riley, Angelo.
