FEARED ASSASSINS

GRANDI HURRIES HOME FROM GENEVA LEFT LEAGUE COUNCIL GENEVA, Wednesday, Signor Dino Grandi, Italian Foreign Minister, who had attended the meetings of the Council of the League of Nations, left again for Italy today .without waiting for the opening of the Assembly. It is rumoured at Geneva that Signor Grandi was in danger of assassination in revenge for the execution last week of four Yugoslavian youths at Trieste a few hours after they had been sentenced lor complicity in the blowing up of the offices of the newspaper “Popolo di Trieste.” It was feared that terrorists might take advantage of the easy access to the Ministers at Geneva, as they are quartered in ordinary hotels. The head of the Italian delegation to the League is not a Minister. It was reported a few days ago tha* Italian soldiers were deserting across the frontier and wandering to Laibach. I lie capital of the Yugoslavian Province of Slovenia, where they were being disarmed. These deserters said their reason was the fear that war between Italy and Yugoslavia was imminent. Troops equipped with extra ammunition were guarding the Italian Consulate. Feeling was made more acute by the execution ol' the four Yugoslavian youths who were sentenced to death at 9.30 p.m. on September 5 by a special Fascist tribunal for complicity in blowing up the offices of a Trieste newspaper, resulting in the death of a sub-editor. The men were shot at dawn next day. Twelve others, including a woman, were sentenced to terms of imprisonment ranging from 30 to 2$ years.
