NEW WONDER-CAR RUNS AT HALF PETROL COST
LUXURY AND SPEED AIRSHIP DESIGNER’S IDEA United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 12.20 p.m. LONDON. Thursday. Sir Denuistoun Burney, the designer of the British airship RIOO, has designed a stream-lined motor-car, applying the lessons he learned in airship construction, especially those relating to wind resistance. He claimed this invention saves 50 I)er cent, of the petrol consumption, while at high speeds the car scarcely touches the ground, thereby saving tyre wear. The engine is a si naight-eiglil-cylin-der, water-cocded and of 22 h.p., placed at the back, thus eliminating all noise, heat and fumes. Long reviews of the trial tests indicate that road shocks are eliminated because each wheel is independently sprung. Humped bridges were taken at 70 miles an hour without inconveniencing the passengers. The car is being marketed at £1,500.
