AUSTRALIA BLED WHITE ECONOMY TEST COMING United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reccl. 10.20 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The “Herald’s” Melbourne correspondent says it is now revealed that Mr. J. E. Fenton, Mr. ,T. A. Lyons and Mr. M. E. Forde are the only three Ministers who demanded an economy session of the Federal Parliament. Senator Daly afterward supported them. Those four are now fighting the rest of the Cabinet and a big section of the Labour Party. The statements by Mr. J. A. Beasley are regarded as mere election propaganda to help Mr. Lang. But the position of the Federal finances is so desperate that Parlia ment must reassemble as soon as possible. All hope of raising additional revenue by means of taxation lias virtually been abandoned owing to the limited field. Mr. Fenton has invited several prominent business and financial men to meet the Cabinet Finance Sub-Com-mittee at Melbourne on Friday. The Government is anxious to test every possible scheme to solve its problems. A message from the liner Orama says Mr. J. H. Scullin is improving rapidly in health. TASMANIA’S CLEAN SWEEP Reed. 10.25 a.m. HOBART, Today. The Legislative Assembly read a first time the Bills designed to reestablish the financial position. These include a wages and salaries tax by means of stamp duty, a rate of 3d in the £ increase in income-tax, a percentage reduction in public service salaries, generally increased probate duties, an additional penny stamp on cheques and amusement and motortax increases. PUBLIC SERVICE GRIEVANCE Reed. 1.35 p.m. BRISBANE, Today. The Premier of Queensland, Mr. E, A. Moore, in declining the request of the Public Service Associations that a representative appear at the Bar of the House speak on the proposal to exclude them from the provisions of industrial awards for the year, said that it was a matter for the Speaker. Mr. Moore declared he could not permit everybody with a grievance to come to the Bar and address the House. Anyone not satisfied with a Government service should leave it. No one was compelled to remain in it. * Further reduction in the salaries of Government employees will shortly be introduced.
