WEST COAST MINE IDLE

PROTEST AGAINST ACTION OF RAILWAYS 250 MEN STOP WORK Press Association GREYMOUTH, Today. The Liverpool Mine was idle today, the men refusing to work, the Railways Department being the object of a protest strike. “All the men returned home from Rewanui,” stated Mr. I. A. James, superintendent of the State Mines, “as a protest against the Railways Department not providing a train for the wet-time men yesterday before about 4.20 p.m. “Under ordinary circumstances a train for the wet-time men leaves Rewanui about 3 p.m. Yesterday the train left Rewanui tor Dunollie about 2.30 p.m. and the men claim that this train should have been delayed instead of keeping the men waiting until the train went to Dunollie and back to Rewanui.” Approximately 250 men are affected by the stoppage, but it is expected that they will resume work tomorrow.
