filly is very well HISTORIC’S IMPROVEMENT Special to THE SDH WELLINGTON, Friday. The crack two-year-old Gesture, who is bound for Sydney next month, was seen in action along with General Assembly at Trentham yesterday mornTns The half-mile they went was left behind in 03. Gesture attracted a deal of attention. She is thoroughly fit and will not be long at Randwick before she sho\%s her best form. „ Historic ran half a mile along the back in 56. and after a while went over the same course again in a second longer. This is the same sort of work as he was given 12 months ago before being taken to Riccarton for the Winter Cup. For the Final Day While he has been allowed to drop out of the approaching Winter Cup. Historic may be taken South and raced on the last day of the C-J.C. fixture. Ho has come on quickly in the last fortnight and should not be long in returning to the winning listMr. C. Boyle’s horses. Rational li and Rasouli. both worked nice half and the same may be said of Arikinui, who is in good fettle and ready for early spring racing. A novice jumper who is showing promise at Trentham is Roi de VaL Diana’s Lad’s Recovery Diana’s Lad is back in work and he schooled proficiently this week. This gelding went wrong at Wanganui last month but seems to be right again. He will race at the Manawatu meeting next week and unless he shapes badly will go on to Riccarton for the Grand National meeting. The Wellington Racing Club proposes to proceed shortly with the erection of additional stalls in the saddling paddock. Possibly, too, a parade ring, similar to that at Riccarton, will be constructed. Silvermine again is in work on the tracks at Haw era and will come to hand quickly. He likes a soft track so may be looked for in the spring. Concentrate’s Fair Effort Concentrate, accompanied by King Musket, ran half a mile in 52 3-5, a very fair effort. Concentrate rolled , into his work in rare style. King : Musket continues to give promise. It j is possible for him to race on the i first or the second day of the CJ.C. winter meeting and then join up with the team for Sydney. He is engaged in the Cashmere Plate at Riccarton. Two of J. McLaughlin’s Winter Cup candidates. Staghunter and Duellona, were sent five furlongs along the back. Staghunter went the better of the pair and ran the distance in 1-7. H® continues to do well and probably will be ridden in the Winter Cup by B. H. Morris, who is free to accept an outside mount since Historic has been allowed to drop out of the race. McLaughlin has still another horse engaged in the Winter Cup, Tourist, who ran a nice half mile in 52§. No rider has bee'n engaged for Tourist, who with a good horseman aboard will have a very good chance in the big mile. In Great Heart Matu was restricted to work on the flat yesterday. He got through it really well and will be in great heart for the Grand National Steeplechase. H. B. Lorigan’s team is to sail for Sydney on August 15. The horses to be taken number five, as follow: Cimabue, Royal Duke, Concentrate, Gesture and King Musket.
