SOLD HORSE TWICE
PROBATION FOR MAORI Charged with stealing a saddle and bridle, valued at £4, Whana Whana Teriaki, a Maori, was admitted to probation for 12 months by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court today. Teriaki. a labourer, was charged with the theft at Morriusville on March 17. Through Mr. Noble, he pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Shanahan said Teriaki had sold a horse, saddle and bridle, for £4 to James Nicholson of Morrinsville, but the following week had borrowed them again to go into the township. He had not returned and it was later discovered that he had sold them to another farmer for £4 1 Os. It was understood that the horse was being returned to Nicholson. Mr. Hunt: He's been no trouble since 1917, so I’ll place him on probation for 12 months. Now, you behave yourself,” he warned Teriaki. "Otherwise you’ll get six months for this.”
Teriaki was ordered to make restitution.
