FIGHT IN STREET
SWEARING RESENTED £lO FINE AT HAMILTON From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON. Today. A. fine of £lO was imposed on Joseph Kelly today for drunkenness and using obscene language outside the Regent Dance Hall on Saturday night. The case arose out of an altercation between accused and another youth named Maurice M. A. Graham, who was charged with assaulting Kelly. Graham said he was talking to a young woman outside the hall when Kelly approached and commenced to use indecent language. He. Graham, told him to “shut up,” and Kelly produced an iron pipe, with which he threatened to assault Graham. Another man intervened. Kelly started to swear again, whereupon the young woman remonstrated. Kelly then called her some unwholesome names, and Graham knocked him down. In dismissing the case against Graham, the Bench said he was not to blame in the circumstances.
