LARGE HOUSE BURNED

SHOOTING TROPHIES LOST All of the contents, including shooting trophies valued at £2OO, were lost in a fire which destroyed a sevenroomed house in Church Street, Penrose, at two o’clock yesterday morning. The occupiers, Mr. and Mrs. W. Morgan, had to escape in their night attire. Mrs. Morgan was awakened by smoke shortly before two o’clock, and found that the house was well alight. The flames cut off access to the telephone, and Mr. Morgan had to hurry to a neighbouring house, though he was hindered by an artificial leg, in order to sumomn the Remuera Fire Brigade. There was no water for fire-fighting, and the wooden building was quickly destroyed. The contents were insured for £3OO. The Defence Department ownsv. the house. Mr. Morgan is the caretaker of the Penrose rifle range.
