STEAMERS BUFFETED
STORMY CONDITIONS AT SEA CYCLONIC GALES Stormy weather and gales of cyclonic intensity were experienced by many vessels which arrived at Auckland during the week-end. The liner Niagara is being delayed by adverse conditions, and will not arrive until four o’clock this afternoon. Squalls of almost hurricane force, strong south-west winds, and heavy seas, which broke upon the deck, smashing a number of jars of acid, were experienced by the Canadian Challenger, which arrived from Montreal on Friday night. The storm was brief, and moderated the following day. The Hauraki arrived from Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon. She encountered a small cyclone four days before arrival, and changing winds blowing with gale force. The motor-vessel Port Waikato, from Port Stephens, and the Kalingo, from Newcastle, experienced continuous stormy weather in the Tasman Sea. On Thursday the Port Waikato was compelled to run before the storm for 14 hours. The Kalingo was delayed for two days by the storm. The Crenatula, which arrived from Borneo on Saturday evening. also encountered rough weather in the Tasman Sea as she was nearing New Zealand.
