TAR-SEALING APPROVED
HAURAKI PLAINS HIGHWAYS From Our Own Correspondent NGATEA, Wednesday. Advice has been received by the Hauraki Plains County Council that the Main Highways Board had given its tentative approval to the scheme for the sealing of the 36 miles of main highway in the county for which a subsidy of £2 for £1 is allow'ed. The board has, however, asked to be supplied with estimates showing the cost of an ISCt road as against a. loft road, and the engineer, Mr. F. Basham, will at once supply the necessary data. The securing of permission from the Highways Board is a big step, for it lias, for many years, ojmposed the sealing of highways in Hauraki Plains, in that it would only grant subsidy as for ordinary maintenance.
