CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER PROMISES INQUIRY TRADE NEGOTIATIONS, TOO Reed. 9.5 a.m. VANCOUVER. Wed. A Royal Commission to investigate the feasibility of cheaper cable rates in the Pacific, is promised by. yie Premier, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, in an election address here. The radio-telephone will also be studied. In this connection, he said, cheaper communication was made necessary by the greater trade of Canada across the Pacific. Negotiations for a greater Australian trade agreement will be launched.
COLONIAL OFFICE POST.—The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Lord Passfield. has appointed Mr. G. J. Tomlinson, formerly of the Nigerian Civil Service, to be assistant Under-Secretary of State in the Colonial Office. Mr. Tomlinson will take charge of a new division being set up to deal with all matters relating to the personnel of the Colonial services.
