SIR MAUI POMARE’S DEATH IN CALIFORNIA MESSAGE FROM AUCKLAND turning the death in California of tl Reform member for the Western Maori electorate. Sir Maui Xgatata Pomare the executive of the Akarana 13011 Association has sent an eloquent message to the Minister of Native Aftairs- Sir Apirana Xgata who his replied to the tribute. S The association is not sending a messaao directly to Ladv Pomare. but •-sir Apirana .N.cita will Vonvev to h >- the regret of the -Maoris of Auckland, rite message of the association to the Minister was;—'Tens. korun ko to mat.ua ° te Tai-l-iauui.ru. kua'hinga net i a Ait.ua, kmga marae o to ao. I-: koro!” , A translation of this reads:—"Greettng to you, and our father of the mUU ‘Y a , ('Vest of the North Island), wno has fallen in death in a home in foreign parts. Yet, of what ! avail ore our regrets? He who gave htm hath taken him away. Farew--!! -Sir Apirana’s reply is:—“Kua tae mai ta koutou mihi mo to tatau hoa mo Maui kua moc atu ra ki Amerika! He mil le pouri mona: kua . koro >’ runga 1 on.-i waka: kua kore te tunni N?afj>u” waka o runga, o rare. A. T. This means:—“Your condolences have come to hand concerning urn* late comrade who has passed awiiv to liU last Jong sleep in America. Great is our sorrow on his acocunt that he no longer mans his canoe. I*’alien has the post to which were moored the canoes of all. from North to South.”
