Labour Asks Short Address-in-Reply

DISPUTE IN HOUSE THE SUN'S Parliament aey Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Tuesday, plea 1 that the Address-in-Reply do Pave should be concluded by the end of this week so that important unemployment legislation could be got on to was made in the House today. The Prime Minister intimated his willingness to do all that was possible to carry out that course. The Leader ol’ the Labour Party, Mr. H. E. Holland, asked Mr. Forbes if lie would be willing to meet the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the Labour Party t.o discuss die question of an attempt to conclude the Address-in-Reply debate tilts week. He said that he was in favour of dismissing the debate after a few speeches’ had been made, tie-
cause that would enable the Government to bring down the Important unemployment measures which he believed were ready. The Prime Minister said that he would he very pleased to have the business of the session facilitated. As far as the Address-in-Reply was concerned. he would be pleased to have it out of the way, but. the matter was iu the hands of members. “Hear, hear.” IMPORTANT SUBJECTS There were members who had what the? considered important subjects to discuss. Mr. Forbes continued. Mr. Holland: Could they not discuss them during the financial debate? .Mr. Forbes: Some of the members think that there will be sufficient matter iu the finance debate without introducing other matters, but I will be only too willing to discuss the subject. Mi-. W. K. Paj’r.v (Labour—Auckland Central): Finish the debate this week. (Laughter, y Mr. Holland: Will the Prime Minister meet the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the Labour Party? Mr. Parry: Let us have something definite. Mr. Speaker: Order, order! There was no chance of the debate (Lagging out for, two or three weeks, Mr. Forbes continued. He wanted an opportunity to discuss important matters before leaving for the Imperial Conference. Mr. Coates: Surely there is no need to confer with the Leader of tieLabour Party regarding the cutting down of the debate. You can speak tor him. (Laught. r.) Mr. 11. T.
