NEW NATIONAL PARK
FORESTRY LEAGUE’S SCHEME VICINITY OF FRANZ JOSEF Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. It is suggested that a new national park should be established in the . vicinity of the Franz Josef Glacier, in ' the South Island, reference to the subject being made at the conference of the New Zealand Forestry League last evening. Mr. .Tames Deans, of Christchurch, president of the league, remarked that there was a suggestion at present that a. large and new national park should be established in South Westland, in the vicinity of the Franz Josef Glacier. He was sure all members of the league would be only too willing to give every assistance to the attainment of such a worthy object. “If this region could be declared a national park or scenic reserve it would ! preserve one of the most beautiful and , unspoilt portions of our indigenous ! forest that is left in the country,” said Mr. Deans. “It would be a national , asset that would attract tourists to 1 this country in increasing numbers.”
