MR. R. P. BINNS Mr. Ronald Peter Binns, of Birken- j head, who has died at the age of 46, i was a well-known representative foot- j bailer on the Ohinemuri goldfield 25 years ago. He is survived by his wife. MR. T. WALLACE A pioneer settler of the Kaitaia district, Mr. Thomas Wallace, has died at the age of 85. Mr. Wallace served in India with an Imperial regiment at the age of 15, and on coming to New Zealand with the regiment, served in the Maori Wars. After his discharge he served under Von Tempsky in Taranaki and the Waikato. He went to North Auckland 47 years ago. MR. D. McFARLANE The death has occurred at Papakura of Mr. David Mc.Farlane at the age of 82. Born in Scotland, Mr. McFarlane served as a seaman before coming to Auckland 55 years ago. He joined the Railway Department and served for 35 years, except for three years spent in Australia. On retiring he moved to Papakura and had lived there since. Mr. McFarlane is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. One son was killed in the Great War. MR. ARTHUR WARBURTON The death has occurred in Wellington of Mi'. Arthur Warburton, aged 82. In 1863 he joined the staff of the Bank of New South Wales and rose to be a manager at Feilding and Te Aro. He resigned about 1883 and established the sharebroking and financial agency firm of Arthur Warburton and Company. He had considerable business interests in Wellington, and for 22 years i was a member of the board of gov- ! ernors of Wellington College and the | Girls’ High School. —P.A. MR. E. H. WAKEFIELD
The death occurred at Thakeham, Sussex, on April 7, of a former New Zealander, Mr. Edward St. George Wakefield, eldest son of the late Mr. Edward Wakefield, well known in New Zealand journalistic and political circles, and grand-nephew of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. Born in Timaru, Mr. Wakefield left New Zealand in 1890 and while in South Africa, served in the Boer War. Returning to England he was in the headquarters of the Royal Automobile Club until he was transferred to the New York office as manager of the touring department of the. Automobile Club of America. He joined the Canadian Air Force in 1917, but he became seriously ill. He never fully recovered, and four years ago retired to Sussex.
