ANNUAL REUNION WEEK-END CELEBRATIONS There was a large attendance at the smoke concert on Saturday evening, which opened the annual reunion of the Sacred Heart College Old Boys’ Association. A large attendance includted representatives from Wellington, Taranaki, Wairarapa and Korth Auckland. Mr. St. Clair Brown and Mr. A. represented the Auckland Grammar School, and King’s College was represented by Dr. E. Robertson and Mr. McCallum. The toasts of the Pope and the King was first honoured, the other toasts being:—“Old Teachers,” proposed by Mr. R. Snedden and responded to by the Rev. Brother Fergus; the “Old Boys’ Association,” ' proposed by the Rev. Bro. Stephen, responded to by Mr. Guy McCleod; “Kindred Associations,” proposed by the Rev. Dr. Buxton, responded to by Mr. St. Clair Brown and Dr. Robertson. In the course of the evening, which marked one of the most successful gatherings held by the association, items were contributed by Mr. Owen Pritchard, Mr. Deo O’Malley, Mr. Alan McElwain and Mr. T. Harris. Yesterday morning Mass was celebrated at the college, the celebrant being the Rev. Father Evans, president of the Wellington Association. Bishop Diston, who presided at the Mass, referred to the opportunities and responsibilities of educated manhood of today. For its leaders the country had to look to the boys trained in the colleges, and it behoved them all to foster the traditions and ideals inculcated at school. At a luncheon, held at the college the following toasts were honoured: “Alma ,Mater,” proposed by Mr. M. Flynn, president of the association, and responded to by the director of the college, the Rev. Brother Eenignus: “The Bishop and Clergy,” proposed by Mr. T. Guscott, of Wellington, responded to by Bishop Liston; “Patrons and Visitors,” proposed by Mr. T. Lanigan, responded to by Mr. T. Buxton. A motor drive was held in the afternoon.
The annual football match, Past v. Present, is to be played this afternoon. The reunion will be brought to a close with, a dance at the Dixieland Cabaret this evening.
