ROXY
“SWEETIE” A famous comedy team, that of William Austin, enactor of English comedy parts, and George Marion, junr., the man who writes the characterisations, is reunited for another dialogue production, Paramount’s super-pep picture, “Sweetie,” which is at the Roxy Theatre. Austin plays the part of Percy (Pussy) Willow, professor of English in the Pelham school for boys, the central locale of the plot for this song-and-dance-and-dialogue extravaganza. The success of Willim Austin in his roles with Marion’s English comic titles was partly responsible for his signing of a long term contract as a Paramount featured player two years ago.. He has had lengthy experience in similar parts on the legitimate stage. Haney Carroll, Paramount’s redheaded cutie, has the title role in “Sweetie.” She plays the chorus girl who inherits a boys’ school. Jack Oakie, the wise-cracking Elmer Kane of “Fast Company” fame, and Helen Kane, the big-eyed babe with the infant voice, are featured with Miss Carroll. Frank Tuttle directed the picture. There are a number of original songs featured in the production, the work of Richard A. Whiting, famous composer of popular melodies. A full programme of talkie supports, particularly talkie comedies, is also at the Roxy.
