For the employment of unemployed c-x-servicemen. the Returned Soldiers’. Association intimated that the sum of £2O was available, provided the council subsidised the amount £ for £. This was accepted, and it was decided to apply to the Government for a subsidy on the amount.
The borough overseer submitted a scheme for the beautifying and improvement of the Queen Street wharf approach, and it was decided to start the work immediately. A donation of £ 3 3s was granted to the recently-formed branch of the Plunket Society.
It was decided to support the recommendation That letters be sent to Devonport and Takapuna Borough Councils and the Waitemata County Council inviting their . co-operation in making representation to the Auckland Hospital Board in favour of establishing a hospital on the North Shore. Provided a favourable reply is received a combined committee meeting will be held to discuss details. The Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, was of, the opinion that by the definite fixing of the site by the recent Harbour Bridge Commission a lot of ground had been gained regarding the project, and that the site* selected was as advocated by the council.
