NEW HOWICK CONVENT

FINE BUILDING PROPOSED A fine building in the Italian Renaissance style has been designed to replace the old Star of the Sea Convent of the Sisters of Mercy at Howick, which was destroyed by fire recently. The new building will harmonise with, the existing dormitory, which was erected four years ago, and will be constructed of brick and reinforced concrete with tiled roof and all modern conveniences. It will command an uninterrupted view of the harbour and lias been designed to permit of a maximum of sunlight In all rooms.

The proposed new building includes sisters’ community room, dining-room, kitchen, servery and offices, six sisters’ bedrooms and a chapel to seat 75 persons. A children’s refectory will connect with the dormitory block by a covered way, and the existing domitorv block will be etttended to accommodate another 35 children.
