BASES FOR WHALERS

NORWEGIANS EXPLORE ANTARCTICA SEEKING NEW HARBOURS Heed. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. Information obtained by the Norwegian Legation discloses that the Norvegia previously explored the Antarctic ice rim from south of Capetown and west to about 140 degreep west, discovering only one new island in the region of Grahamsland. There were no suitable harbours and nothing useful to Norwegian whaling enterprises, owing to the unsuitability of Bouvet Island, in which there was no harbour. It was necessary to seek new land suitable for whaling bases.
