“ADMIRABLE TONE”
TRAINING COLLEGE WORK PRAISED
INSPECTORS’ COMMENT
A conviction of the keen interest taken in their work by students of the Training College was reached by Mr. W. W. Bird, chief inspector of primary schools, and Mr. N. T. Lambourne, senior inspector to tho Auckland Education Board, after an inspection. The inspectors drew up a memorandum for the Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong, and a copy of the report was read before tho Education Board this morning. “We had the opportunity of seeing first and second-year students at work and came to the conclusion that they are proud of the institution,” said the report. “They are keen to make the best use of their time. An admirable tone is evident both in the college and in the outdoor activities. The staff is carrying out its duties in an earnest and an efficient manner, and is giving the students training which-will enable them to enter the teaching service with high ideals and much practical knowledge. “In the lecture rooms, we found the topics well presented by the lecturers. Tho work at the college is soundly organised. The associated teachers are giving valuable assistance. Within the college, the practical training is on capable lines. Every lecture on teaching methods is followed by a demonstration, in which the principal, the vice-principal, the lecturer in method, or another member of the staff, puts into practice what has been recommended to tho students. The Normal School has two model country schools, three junior model country schools, a grouped class and two parallel classes.” TRAINEES LEAVING 1929 DEPARTURE FIGURES The extent of the 1929 departure list at the Training College was reported this morning to tho Education Board by the principal, Mr. L>. M. Rae. Students to be appointed v as probationary assistants numbered 121, and students eligible as substitute assistants, 66, including 11 third-year students.
