RESENTED EVICTION

MUST PAY FOR BARMAN’S TROUSERS

Unfortunately for Albert Beckett, a constable was standing within earshot when he used very forceful language as a barman put him out of the Alexandra Hotel,

Parnell, yesterday afternoon. DECKETT, a labourer aged 45, was charged at the Police Court this morning with being found drunk in Parnell Road, using obscene language and committing mischief by wilfully damaging a pair of trousers valued at 10s 6d, belonging to William George Brookes. He pleaded guilty on the charge of drunkenness, but not guilty on the other two counts. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that Beckett had to be put out of the hotel as he was badly under the influence of liquor. He had torn the barman’s trousers and used very bad language. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: I suppose the barman filled him up and then put him out. Constable Smith assured the court that Beckett was a very decent man as a rule. ... ~ Brookes said that he had given the man a chance to go quietly before using force. He had had only two drinks in the hotel, and seemed all right when he came in. “I don’t think the trousers are worth 10s 6d,” commented the magistrate, as the torn garments were held out by a constable. Beckett was ordered to pay damage ss. On the drunkenness count he was fined and costs, and he was convicted and discharged for using obscene language. “I am letting you oft lightly because the police speak well of you, added the magistrate.
