SOCIETY’S ACTIVITIES OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR The Auckland Society foe the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has had a very successful year. Ibis was remarked upon, by the chairman of the committee, Mr. L E Rhodes, at the third annual meeting of the society in the Unity Hall last opening. He presided in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr. c. H. Furness. The chairman paid a tribute to the committee, and particularly to the women, who had given splendid service in securing the donations upon which the finances of the society were wholly dependent. The inspector's activities had taken him, at times, into the country districts, and he had done ' cry good work in regard to the ••bobby” calf industry. An outstanding event during the year had been the building of the Blue Cross Hospitui which w as being successfully conducted under the charge of Mr H \V Car bury.

Proposing the rescission of a resolution restricting the number of honorary inspectors in Auckland and suburbs to three, Mr. J. Armstead said H was believed that valuable assista nee in turthering the aims of the society could be given by a number o! interested persons.

The motion was carried. The chairman remarked that the three honorary inspectors had done excellent work. A revision of the rules was adopted, ino principal change being to grant power to borrow money, if necessarv, on the property of the society. The successful formation of the Junior League was referred to by Mr. Rhodes. He mentioned that 31,000 circulars were sent to SGO schools in trie course of the organising campaign r ! he securing of 380 members in the lixst year was a wonderful record, and it was hoped that the number would he more than doubled during the coming year. Reference was made to the death of Air. J. A. Forbes. of Oumaru, who originated “Animal Welfare Week.” A letter of condolence will be sent to bis relatives.
