WHANGAMARINO SWAMP IS VALUABLE APPEAL TO SETTLEMENT' LEAGUE That an area of 2,000 acres of Government land, situated in the Whangamarino Swamp between Mercer and ITuntly, should be opened was the request received by the New Zealand Land Settlement and Development League yesterday from Messrs. Searle, of Mercer. The writer, who represented a number of settlers, said all they desired was a road frontage to their properties. The area was capable of being subdivided into 100-acre blocks by one road, and could support 200 families when deyeloped. Though the possibilities of the area were pointed out to j the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. WForbes, during his tour, no action hac been taken. The extension of the league’s activities were discussed, and it was suggested by members that the formation of branches in Southern centres should be undertaken. It was decided that chambers of commerce should be asked to consider the matter, which was left in"the hands of a sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, Mr. W. J. lioldsworth. and secretary, Mr. A. A. Ross, and Mr W. Frazer.
