BRITISH MINERS MEET
CONFERENCE ARRANGED FOR THIS WEEK PROPOSED DISTRICT BALLOT British Official U'ireZc*j» Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Saturday. A meeting has been arranged for representatives of the Miners' Federation next Wednesday. The meeting of the executive, which was tentatively fixed for Tuesday, will, therefore, be held on Wednesday evening and continued on Thursday. Delegates to the conference of the miners will assemble the following Tuesday and will have an opportunity of examining the proposals, and will decide upon the method of consulting members and obtaining their opinion. The conference, which will not be qualified to make decisions, may decide to put proposals to a ballot vote in the districts. The “Manchester Guardian” points out that this is an experiment whose results, as in 1926, are often far from being in the best interests of the Miners’ Federation. Alternatively, the conference may call a second conference, to which delegates w’ould come with authority to express the decisions iof the districts.
