HALIFAX NAVAL BASE
DEMILITARISATION ISSUE DISCUSSED CANADA CLAIMS CONTROL Australian and N.Z. Press Association (United Service) OTTAWA, Thursday. Canadian officials have received with interest an intimatiou in Washington dispatches that Mr. MacDonald is to visit Canada to discuss the question of the Government demilitarising the naval base at Halifax. The point is emphasised in Ottawa that the British Government is without authority. Canada’s military and naval activities and all her naval property, once under British jurisdiction, have now passed into Canada’s hands. Halifax has been under Canada’s complete control since 1906. Officials decline to discuss the question whether the demilitarisation of the naval base will constitute a feature of the projected conference in London.
