CAPABLE REINSMAN

THE English reinsman Fred Smith was seen in action at Alexandra Park on Saturday behjnd Dillon Huon, and although his charge was not successful, the newcomer won golden opinions on * all sides for his capable driving. When Dillon Huon shadow-jumped at the quarter-mile peg in the Matakitaki Valley Handicap, Smith recovered his charqe with wonderful alacrity, and the defeat of the Harold Dillon pacer was no fault of the reinsman. Jack McKendrick, trainer of Dillon Huon, is to be complimented upon his good sportsmanship in standing down to give the Englishman a chance, and judging by the favourable impression the latter created, his services will be in demand at future fixtures in this province.
