LAMBETH CONFERENCE

FOUR BISHOPS GOING FROM NEW ZEALAND IN LONDON NEXT YEAR Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. Invitation*, to attend the Lambeth Conference in London next July have been accepted by the Primate of New Zealand, Archbishop A. W. Averill, tile Bishop of Christchurch, Dr. Campbell West Watson, the Bishop of Dunedin, Dr. I. Kichards, the Bishop of Nelson, Dr. W. C. Sadlier, and the Bishop of Waikato, Dr. C. A. Cherrington. A fund was recently opened to send the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, to the conference. The Bishop of Waiapu, Dr. W. W. Sedgwick, to whom Bishop Bennett is suffragan, has signified his approval of this. Even if the necessary finance were available, however, it now seems unlikely that Bishop Bennett will make the trip, as he has stated that he will find it very difficult to spare the time away from New Zealand that such a visit would entail.. A Lambeth Conference takes place once every ten years, the last being in 1920, when New Zealand was represented by the present Primate, Archbishop Julius, who at that time was Primate, and Bishop Sedgwick. Next year’s conference will be the first under the presidency of the new Archbishop of Canterbury. Dr. Cosmo Lang. Invitations to attend the conference have been issued to all bishops of the Anglican communion and bishops of the Episcopal Church of America.
