PAPAKURA ORPHANS’ CLUB
The Papakura Orphans’ Club held its eighth meeting of the season on Thursday. A vice-president, Bro. G. C. Hobson, presided over the largest attendance of the session, about 200 being present. The official visitors were the president, Bro. Hosking, past-president Bro. O’Loughlin, vice-president, Bro. S. P. Day, vice-president, Bro. McWllirter, and secretary, Bro. Short, of the Pukekohe Orphans’ Club; the*vice-president Bro. Speight, treasurer, Bro. KirkJones, and members of the Onehunga Orphans’ Club: the vice-president, Bro. Scheland, vice-president, Bro. Sanderson, vice-president, Bro. Pheasant, and treasurer, Bro Leslie, of the Otahuhu Orphans* Club. Bro. Hobson, on behalf of the Papakura brethren, extended a warm welcome to all the official visitors. Bro. Hosking, of the Pukekohe Orphans’ Club, on behalf of the visitors returned thanks. A presentation of a cheque and travelling rug was made by the president, Bro. W. K. Francis, to Bro. Phil. Hardman, the conductor of the orchestra, who leaves for Australia next month. Bro. Francis made eulogistic references to Bro. Hardman’s valued services as conductor and accompanist. Bro. Hardman suitably replied. A fine programme was given by the following: Bros. McSkimming, T. C. Seaton, L. Kcrnot, H. Gribble, Queen. Andrews and Kearwell. The orchestra led by Bro. Phil. Hardman played several selections and ably led the usual community singing. Bro. Francis announced that the club would officially visit the Hamilton Orphans’ Club on Saturday, September 14
