NORTH AUCKLAND RUGBY
WHANGAREI FINANCES (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI, Today. The meeting of the council of the North Auckland Rugby Union on Thursday evening tobk the form of a conference for the discussion of any matter of interest to the sub-unions or to the union itself. Healing with the question of giving financial assistance to the Whangarei Sub-Union, the Whangarei delegate, Air. Collins, stated that the formation of Rugby Park had involved tlie expenditure of several hundreds of pounds. Alore money was required to drain the ground properly. Owing to its present state all important matches had to be played on Kensington Park. The Whangarei Union required a loan to finish the grounds. Considerable criticism took place of the refusal of the New Zealand Union to advance loans to sub-unions for such purposes. Visiting delegates then offered to contribute from their own union funds to lend Whangarei the necessary money. They stated that it was of paramount importance to the whole of the North that a good, central ground be available in Whangarei. However, on the motion of Mi’. V. Dunlop, Bay of Islands, it was decided to recommend the North Auckland executive to advance £CO to the Whangarei Sub-Union, the money to be repayable at call.
