WELLINGTON PROTEST CAUSES SURPRISE PERSEUS COMMENTS The news (see page 15) that the Wellington Y.M.C.A. has entered a protest against Auckland Tramways being declared winner of the North Island Chatham Cup final at Blandford Park last Saturday came as no surprise in Auckland. A telegram to this effect \va3 received by the Control Board of the A.F.A. yesterday from the New Zealand Council, asking whether James Christie, who played for Trams against Wellington Y.M. last Saturday, was disqualified in Scotland. The authorities here at once interviewed the player, who gave a point-blank denial that he had ever been disqualified in ! Scotland, or that there was any , . >.rd against him which would d bar him playing here. “NOT SUPPORTED BY EVIDENCE” Christie’s denial was at once wired to the New Zealand Council, which advised the A.F.A. today that the Wellington Y.M.C.A. had entered a protest, on account of Christie, but that it was not supported by evidence. It also advised that Christie could olay for Trams in the Chatham Cup final against Seaeliff at Wellington on Saturday. There is considerable surprise in local Soccer circles that the Wellington Y.M. should have protested on such flimsy grounds, and without supporting evidence. Christie has played in senior Soccer here for four seasons, and represented Auckland for the past three seasons. Three years ago there was some confusion here with another senior Soccer player of the same name, who hailed from the same district of Scotland, and played for Huntly, Northcote and Ponsonby seniors. . STRETTON REPRIMANDED Stretton, the Tramways player, who was sent off during the game last Saturday, has been reprimanded by the New Zealand Council, which dealt with tho case, and is now available for Saturday’s final tie. The champions leave by the express tonight, and will be represented by the same team which defeated Wellington Y.M. last Saturday. “PERSEUS.”
