Obituary
MR. F. L. YOUNG Mr. F. L. Young, who lived for many years in Auckland, has died at his son’s station, Meramie, Warren, New South Wales, at the age of SO. Mr. Young was a well-known personage in the Eastern Pacific, having traded from Sydney to Ponape, Kusaie and other places in the Carolines and the Marshall Islands. Mr. Young, who was a cousin of Viscount Bryce, remained in the Northern and Central Pacific for 11 years. Later the firm of Andrew Crawford and Company induced him to superintend its trading station. He left the company in 1888, and commenced business on his own account. He sold out and returned to Sydney in 1896. Two or three years later he purchased the Island businesses of Henderson and Macdonald and becoming at the same time managing-director of S. R. Maxwell and. Company, settled in Auckland. After retiring from business he went to live with his only son at Warren. Mr. Young was regarded as a high authority on Polynesian subjects.
