“ABOUT THE LIMIT”
NEWMARKET’S MAYOR CRITICISES MR. STERLING “This is about the limit! This man is getting £5,000 a year and he cannot answer a simple question sooner than this. It is three weeks since we wrote him on this matter, and still we have no reply. All he has to say is ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ ” TN these words the Mayor of Newmarket, Mr. S. Donaldson, criticised the General Manager of Railways, Mr. H. H. Sterling, at last evening's meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council. The council had written to Mr. Sterling three weeks ago asking him if the Railway Department had submitted to the Town-Planning Board the plan of the proposed subdivision of the department’s property at the corner of Remuera Road and Broadway, for the purpose of obtaining the board’s approval thereof. Mr. Sterling had replied on August 5 that the subject would receive immediate attention. Further than that nothing had been heard from him. Councillors concurred with the Mayor’s remarks, and it was decided to write to Mr. Sterling asking that a reply be furnished.
