INTOXICATED DRIVER
SMASHED INTO QUEEN STREET SAFETY ZONE FINE OF £25 IMPOSED A sequel to a midnight crash last night, when a motor-car was driven into a Queen Street safety zone, was the appearance of John Hubert Wilde in the Police Court this morning on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motorcar. Wilde, a motor mechanic, aged 28, pleaded guilty, and Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that accused’s car had been extensively damaged when he had struck the safety zone. When the po-lice arrived on the scene, .the man was more than intoxicated. He was drunk. “He has never been here before,” added the sub-inspector. Wilde had nothing to say, and was fined £25, in default two months’ imprisonment. His driving licence was, cancelled for 12 months. Accused was allowed a week to find the money.
