FRIVOLOUS MAORIS

WRESTLED IN THE STREET A playful but too vigorous wrestling bout on the way from a football match on Saturday afternoon resulted in a brace of bewildered Maoris facing Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. George Here, aged 23, and Harry Robert, aged 27, were charged with being disorderly while drunk in Quay Street oil Saturday. Neither accused seemed to understand the charge which was rut by both the clerk of the court and the orderly until —“Were you drunk on Saturday?” queried the magistrate. Faces wreathed in smiles immediately and the Maoris nodded a goodhumoured assent. “That settles it, you see,” commented Mr. Hunt. Sub-Inspector McCarthy mentioned that the men had been wrestling and getting in people’s way. Fines of £1 each were imposed.
