ORCHARD INSTRUCTOR LEAVES GOVERNMENT SERVICE Leaving the Government service at the end of next month, Mr. W. H. Rice, chief orchard instructor of the Department of Agriculture, Auckland, will become manager of the fruit department of Radley and Company, Ltd., Auckland. Mr. Rice, after receiving his early horticultural training in England, came to New Zealand, joining the Agriculture Department in 1916, when he became orchard instructor for the East Coast of the North Island. During the 1924 fruit export season Mr. Rice represented the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation in South America. He also visited Canada and the United States, being on loan to the federation for the whole time he was away.

In the following year he was appointed chief orchard instructor at Auckland, and during the 1927 season, at the request of the Fruit Export Control Board, he supervised the export shipping arrangements at Wellington. . It is generally recognised among orchardists that Mr. Rice's knowledge and experience has been of great service co the fruit industry in Auckland.
