LAND BOARD CHANGE
MR. J. E. WELLS’S SERVICE MR. A. M. WRIGHT APPOINTED At the monthly meeting - of the North Auckland Land Board held on Wednesday, Mr. A. McLenon Wright, of Takahue, the Government appointee, took his seat on the Land Board in place of Mr. J. E. Wells, retired. The chairman, Mr. O. N. Campbell, on behalf of the members of the board, welcomed Mr. Wright, and expressed pleasure at his appointment. He stated it was his opinion that the experience gained by Mr. Wright as a practical farmer, and his knowledge of land matters generally, would prove of material assistance to the board and the Crown tenants under its control. Mr. J. E. Wells, the retiring member, has had 12 years’ experience in land board administration work, having been a member of the North Auckland Land Board since its inception in 1919, prior to which time he served in a similar capacity in the Auckland land district.
The board expressed its regret in losing the valuable services of Mr. "Wells, who was senior member, and placed on record its high appreciation of the untiring and impartial manner in which he always assisted the board in its determinations. For a considerable period after the North Auckland 'land district came into existence, it was necessary for the board to meet fortnightly instead of monthly, in order to cope with the large volume of work arising out of discharged soldier settlement, and it is noteworthy that during Mr. Wells’s long term of office, he was on no occasion absent from a meeting of the board.
