“THE DOCTOR’S SECRET” “The Doctor’s' Secret,” the all-talking film version of the famous play, “Half An Hour,” by Sir James Barrie, has now commenced its second week at the Strand Theatre. The leading roles are played by Ruth Chatterton, 11. B. "Warner, Robert Edeson, and John Lode.r. The story concerns Richard Garson, a wealthy man of humble origin, who has married a member of the aristocracy, and later taunts her with having married him only for his money. Lillian Garson soon tries of such unfair treatment, and decides to elope with Hugh Paton, a young man who is in love with her.
While preparing for the flight, Paton is killed, and Lillian realises that she has deliberately left her husband and is at a loss where to go. She returns to her husband’s house, but complications occur when her husband learns of Paton’s death. After a series of exciting adventures, Lillian is reestablished in her husband’s affections, and the film ends happily. In addition, the Strand programme includes a splendid aggregation of talkie supports, headed by a film depicting the British Fleet at sea, with full sound accompaniments. There are a number of musical selections by the Squire Octet, conducted by H. W. Squire, the famous ’cellist; another English all-talking comedy; banjo numbers by Eddie Peabody and his college chums; and, finally, a new Fox Movietone News.
