Obituary
MISS A. E. HARKER Aliss Anne Ellen Harker, who died at her home in Alfred Street yesterday at the age of 83, was born in England and came to New Zealand with her parents about 1860. She was for many years a member of the Auckland Choral Society, and she was well-known in church circles, being an active social worker in St. Sepulchre’s parish during the ministry of Archdeacon Dudley. MR. C. T. DUDLEY The only surviving son of the late Archdeacon Dudley, Air. Charles Thornton Dudley, has died in Nelson at the age of 86. One of the original scholars of Christ’s College, Christchurch, and one of the oldest surviving old boys, Air. Dudley commenced farming in Canterbury, but finally settled in the Nelson district 20 years ago, MR. J. W. WHYTE A well-known resident of Otahuhu, Air. James Watt Whyte, has died at the age of 70. Born in Cook Street, Auckland, Air. Whyte’s father moved to Onehunga, where he commenced business as a storekeeper. He left the business to his son, who carried on for some years. Air. Whyte then engaged in farming at Mangere until he retired, the present motor speedway being constructed on what was his farm. Air. Whyte was actively interested in local body affairs, being a former member of the Alangere Road Board, a member of the Otahuhu Borough Council, president of the Otahuhu Bowling Club and a vice-president of the Otahuhu Orphans’ Club. He was chairman of the Ayckland Milk Company for 10 years. Air. Whyte is survived by three sons and three daughters. There are five grandchildren. His mother, Airs. Alary Whyte, is still living at Onehunga, being in her 93rd year.
