Legitimate Theatre Opens With Talkies
T ESTERDAV, the Theatre Royal, Ch ristchurch, opened its doors as a talking picture cinema, the initial programme being headed by “The Bellamy Trial” which was screened recently at the Regent. This is the first case in New Zealand of talkies being installed in a legitimate theatre. The Royal, 2 J. C. Williamson house, occupies the same relative position in Christchurch theatredom as does His Majesty's in Auckland. The Royal talkies will complete the Regent chain in the principal centres of New Zealand.
