MORRINSVILLE NOTES
Several farm deals have been reported in the Morrinsville district during the past few days, among these being the purchase of Cooper’s estate, of 206 acres, by Mr. O. Tegallais. Mr. W. Middleton’s property has been bought by Mr. S. H. Elliott, and Mr. U. L. Abbott’s 100 acres by Mr. NeilA popular girl contest is being conducted by the Kereone Hall Committee. The position to date is that Miss E. Harnett is leading from Miss M. Muir (Morrinsville). The other candidate is Miss F. Mikkelson (Kiwitahi). Mr. C. S. Teggett, a prominent farmer, of Motomaoho, who .returned this’ week from Taranaki, states that high price's are ruling there for grade dairy cattle. Two-year heifers are bringing from 15 to 20 guineas, and the average for cows is about 23 guineas. Pedigree Jerseys a.re also in demand. Building activities continue in Morrinsville. At Thursday evening’s meeting of the borough council, it was stated that permits issued last month totalled £5,600. The buildings authorised included residences for Dr. Morrow, Mr. H. Hartley, and Mrs. R. Grove, and a shop and dwelling for Mrs. J. G. Birch. The congestion of traffic in the main street of Morrinsville on sale days has created a position which has forced the borough council to take action. It has decided to prohibit parking in certain portions of the main streets for any period longer than half an hour. * * * Approximately 650 motor-cars have been registered at the Morrinsville Post Office for this year. The numbers range from 37,500 to 38,100, thence to 43,000, in which series latecomers are now being registered. The half-yearly installation of officers of the Star of Piako (D.ruids) Lodge was held this week, the officers being: A.D., Bro. J. Calvert; V.A.D., Bro. R. S. Eggers; secretary. Bro. A. V. Allott; treasurer and assistant secretary, Bro. G. Simpson: guardians, Bros. Elder and Blackburn; A.D.B.’s, Bros. E. Grigg and J. T. Barlow; V.A.B.’s, Bro. T. Makene and T. Scholfield; M.C., Bro. Ennis. The installing officer was District President Bro. R. H. Goble. * * Advice has been received by the Morrinsville Borough Council that the chlorinating plant to be erected in connection with the Morrinsville water supply would arrive in Auckland some time this month.
