BOWLING CLUBS
ANNUAL MEETINGS HELD At the annual meeting of the Henderson Bowling Club, Mr. IT. Norcross presiding, the annual report showed that the club had a very successful year, finishing up well in the pennant competition and inter-club games. The balance-sheet showed the finances to be in a satisfactory condition. During the year the members of the club formed working bees and did a considerable amount of work to the grounds, top-dressing the bowling and croquet greens and also building an iron fence to act as a breakwind on the west side of the grounds. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. G. Y. Canton; senior vicepresident, Mr. F. McKay; junior vicepresident, Mr. W. Leighton; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Chandler; green superintendent, Mr. H. Wright; assistant green superintendent, Mr. A. Massey; committee, Messrs. Moors, Brooks, Massey, T. Carter and Scott; auditor, Mr. E. Greenslade; delegates to Auckland Centre, Messrs. Canton and McKay; reporter, Mr. G. Melhose; selection committee, Messrs. Moors, Massey and Bridson; social committee, Messrs. Hogan, T. Carter, Cossey, Geldard, Erceg, Schramm and R. Norcross. A vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing officers, also to the women, who were highly complimented on the way they catered for the club. It was decided during the coming year to hold fortnightly midweek tournaments, pairs and full rink in turn. HILLSBOROUGH At the annual meeting of the Hillsborough Bowling Club, Mr. W. Wilkinson presided. A satisfactory year s work was reviewer by the chairman, who made special mention of the work of Messrs. E. V. Pollard and C. Everett, green superintendent and greenkeeper, respectively. Officers were elected as follow: President, Mr. E. A. Pearce; Vice-prg-sidents, Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P., and Mr. E. V. Pollard; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. H. Stringer; green superintendent, Mr. E. V. Poilard; delegate to Auckland Centre, Mr. Raymoya Sheath; sole selector, Mr. J. Gregory; auditor, Mr. G. N. Sainty; committee, Messrs. J. J. Preston, S. Scarborough, W. Sinclair, J. Clarke, T. Monk, J. Williamson, R. Goldsmith. CAMBRIDGE At the annual meeting of the Cambridge Bowling Club, Mr. M. Butler presiding, a very satisfactory report was presented. The balance sheet showed that the club’s debit balance had been reduced from £56 3s lOd to 9d. The election of officers restated: Patron, Mr. J. Ferguson; president, Mr. T. F. Richards; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. H. McCathie, D. J. Lundon and Edgar James; secretary and treasurer*, Mr. N. Sutherland; green superintends, Messrs. E. C. W r allis and J. Low; executive, Messrs. S. R. James, T. IT. Boyce and M. Butler; coach, Mr. G. Harris; auditor, Mr. F. M. Oliver; delegates to the South Auckland Centre, Messrs. Richards and Edgar James; match, committee, Messrs. L. Harris, F. Gibson and C. H. Cooper; tournament committee, Messrs. R. Webber, S. Armstrong and H. H. McMr. Edgar James, who has been secretary for the past nine years, retired on account of business affairs. Warm tributes were paid to his services to the club.
It was decided to hold the annual tournament at Easter as usual.
