EXPLANATION ACCEPTED BY COURT

Francis Gibson's explanation as to why he was found on the Tofua late last night was accepted by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning. Gibson, aged 37, was charged with being found on the Tofua. He pleaded guilty but explained that he had met a mate from the ship earlier in the day and had gone on board, j where he fell asleep. “I had no bad j intention,” he urged. ] “That’s about it,” agreed Sub-In- j spector McCarthy, “only Gibson ! refused to leave the ship when the j night watchman found him and the j police had to be called in. He came I down from the country recently with a good sum of money. He has hardly left the hotel bars since and as a result Is now destitute.” “He has been In all night,” remarked tlie magistrate, and discharged the man, though a conviction was entered.
