NOT IN RECEPTION

EMDEN CALL AND MAORI ASSOCIATION PASSIVE ATTITUDE No action will be taken by Te Akarana Maori Association for the natives of Auckland when the German warship Emiien paj T s its visit. The association has decided not to be connected with a Maori welcome it has heard will be organised when the cruiser arrives.

It has been stated to the association that a local Maori woman of prominence has become a member of a reception committee, and that site is concerned in the welcome suggested. Keen disapproval has been expressed by members at the taking part,, at the present time, in an entertainment for the Germans.

The association’s attitude is not that of the resentment shown by a

section of the North Auckland Maoris to the Germans’ call; like many of the people of Auckland, the members are merely content to let the visitors come and go.
