BOOTS STOLEN
THEFT FROM DOORWAY OF SHOP THREE MONTHS’ PENALTY Caught red-handed in one theft yesterday, William Anderson was let off. He did not take that as a warning, however, and, on his next venture, met a shopkeeper who, to quote Chief-Detective Hammond, was not so kind-hearted. Anderson, aged 45, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to stealing a pair of boots valued at £1 from Charles Wise. According to the chief detective, the boots had been stolen from a Hobson Street shop yesterday, but Anderson had been seen by the proprietor and the police sent for. “He had a similar experience half an hour earlier,” continued the chief detectf “but that t*i*r '* "s k i r*. 1 li, and let h-i-.i off. Drink is this man’s trouble and he has been on the island several times.” “He has been here half a dozen times for theft,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposing a penalty of three months’ imprisonment.
