ROAD TO AIRPORT
fIOO FROM MOTORISTS ACTIVITY AT WANGANUI (Special to THE SUS) WANGANUI, Thursday. At a. meetaing of the Wanganui Automobile Association reference was made to the decision of the Chamber of Commerce to advance £IOO toward the establishment of an airport at Wanganui. Members thought an airport for Wanganui would be a fine thing for the district, and that Wanganui was especially lucky in having one of the best sites in New Zealand. One speaker mentioned that, in the report of the Automobile Association of London on transport, it had been pointed out how closely allied was the motor and air transport. They stressed the necessity for automobile, associations doing everything in their power to assist in the establishment of airports and the advance of aviation.
The following motion was carried: "That this association strongly supports the establishment of an airport in Wanganui and that it show its support in a practical manner by donating £IOO toward the construction of a motor road thereto.”
It was mentioned that the ground adjacent to the proposed site of the airport was very suitable for a camping ground, there being a fine beach particularly safe for bathing. It was resolved that the Roads Committee inspect Landguard Bluff as soon as possible with a view to selecting a.j suitable spot for a camping site. The question as to whether the road j to the airport should be a main high- j way was brought up, and the association decided to support any represen- 1 tation in this direction.
